Calibration curves of glycerol and its formates using derivatization with phenyl isocyanate
Lauma Laipniece

Chemical interesterification reaction of rapeseed oil with methyl formate yield two layers of product - upper biofuel containing layer and lower glycerol formates containing layer. Method for quantitative determination of glycerol, monoformin (MFG), and diformin (DFG) in lower layer of interesterification reaction was develped. Method was developed using synthesized mixture of formins and added pure glycerol. Standard sample was derivatized with phenyl isocyanate in acetonitrile solution and catalyst N,N-dimethylaminopyridine was used, excess reagent was quenched with methanol. Calibration in miligrams per mililiter of analytes. Glycerol derivate gets saturated at 0.024 mg/mL and precipitates.
