Title Synthesis of Betulonic Acid
Abstract

Betulin and betulonic acid are lupane type triterpenoid. These compounds and their derivatives are found as effective drug candidates in the last decade. Depending on the substituents these compounds demonstrate anti-virus, anti-cancer or anti-infammatory activity.

Description of the technology

We have elaborated and approbated method for synthesis of betulonic acid by oxidation of betulin with Jones reagent. We have found, that crude betulonic acid can be effectivelly purified by transforming it to cyclohexylammonium salt and sequential conversion to betulonic acid with high purity (more than 97.5% according to HPLC).

Applications An intermediate for synthesis of lupane derivatives, e.g., for medicinal chemistry purposes.
Advantages

The main advantages of our provided procedure is reduced amount of highly volatile solvents, as well as simplified extraction of the product.
