Title Determination of the Fuel Viscosity Using Stabinger Viscometer SVM 3000
Abstract

Kinematic viscosity has a significant effect on the fuel injection of the engine and the formation of combustible mixture. The combustion temperature and nitrogen oxides emissions increase in the case of high viscosity of the fuel. The kinematic viscosity is determined at +20 OC and +40 OC. According to the LVS EN 590, the kinematic viscosity of diesel at +40 OC must be 2.0-4.5 cSt. The kinematic viscosity of biodiesel at +40 OC must be 3.5-5.0 cSt., according to the LVS EN 14214.

Description of the technology

The viscosity of fuel is determined by using Anton Paar Stabinger Viscometer SVM 3000. The minimal volume of the test fuel sample is 5 ml. Viscometer parameters - temperature range 15-105 OC, viscosity range 0.2-20000mPa.s. The fuel is filled in a tube that rotates at a constant speed. The measuring rotor floats in this tube that eliminates the impact of bearing friction on measurements.
