Determination of rheological properties of bitumen and bituminous mixtures

Description of the Technology

Determinination of rheological properties (e.g. dynamic shear modulus and phase angle of asphalt binder in accordance with AASHTO T 315) of bitumen or bituminous mixtures in a viscoelastic range is performed using a Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR) Anton Paar RheoCompass™. Spindles with parallel plate test geometry (with diameter of 25.00±0.05 mm and 8.00±0.02 mm) are available. The method is applicable to asphalt binders having dynamic shear modulus values in the range from 100 Pa to 10 MPa. This range in modulus is typically obtained if the binder is tested between 6 °C and 88°C at an angular frequency of 10 rad/s



Applications

This test method is intended for determination of viscoelastic rheological properties of bitumen and bituminous mixtures at different temperatures using one sample.



Advantages

Determinination of rheological properties in a viscoelastic range are determined using only small amount of the product.
