Description of the Technology

With the needle penetration method, the penetration of the needle in a conditioned bitumen or bituminous binders test sample is measured. For penetration approximately up to 330*0.1 mm, the operating parameters must be determined at a temperature of 25 ⁰C; the duration of loading is 5 s. Penetration is determined with a semiautomatic digital penetrometer B056-02 KIT, MATEST. The testing procedure carried out on a sample immersed in a water bath or on a sample that is within one minute been removed from a transport container with the appropriate temperature. Three valid measurement results taken into account for the determination of the penetration value.

Applications

The needle penetration method is suitable for determining the penetration of samples of bitumen and bituminous binders. The method intended to detect inhomogeneity in bitumen and bitumen binder products.

Advantages

The needle penetration method is suitable for determining the penetration of bitumen and bitumen binders with a small sample mass (80-170 ml) as well as for experimental samples before to industrial manufacture.
