Title Fabric Construction for Enhanced Infrared-Protection Properties of Camouflage Clothing
Abstract

A warm body can be detected by its infrared (IR) signature. Military and special forces need clothing that complicates detection of the infrared radiation. Moreover the clothing should be comfortable, resistible, and durable and ensure thermal comfort of the body. To reduce the infrared signature of the body, RTU offers IR protection finishing of textiles using amber suspension.

Description of the technology

The developed textile consists of absorbent and reflective layers. The amount of the layers is limited by external, internal and interlayers. The textiles are impregnated with Baltic amber powder suspension in different concentrations. Amber molecules contain terpenes (aromatic compounds with double bonds) that effectively absorbs IR radiation. The effectiveness of the treatment is assessed in the laboratory tests.

Applications IR protection finishing of textiles using amber suspension is applicable in production of combat uniform for soldiers of the armed forces and special units that complicates detection and localization of soldiers using infrared red detection devices.
