Every trading company need to stand out from other enterprises to survive. Thus, any trading company need a competitive model of economic activity, because in economics competitiveness serves as progress determinant. Moreover, it is better if this model is trended on activity in long-term. Latvian entrepreneur lacks vision in the organization of economic activity of trading company. His/her opinion is too conservative, which corresponds to temper of Latvian population (people from countries located further from equator are more introvert and prejudiced, in its turn, people living closer to equator are more communicative, friendly and open to new ideas), therefore original way how to raise trading company’s rating in front of clients is looked for. In thesis’s analytical part role of trade enterprises in the development of national economy is looked at, after that Latvia’s and Portugal’s comparison is carried out, according to different segmentation features. Analytical part is concluded by stating sector’s problems and advantages. In thesis’s article part competitiveness as a kind of economic behavior is looked at, and after the analysis of competitiveness indicators author’s three novelties arise. In the end of title it is decided what methods will be used in the study, and there author’s fourth novelty arises. In thesis’s scientific practical part author shows competitiveness model of trading companies basing on the results obtained in the survey, and it shows how this could work in practice by explaining each sub-indicator in detail. In the conclusion of the thesis competitiveness level of trading company, which was taken as an example, is evaluated using factors comparison method, and thesis's efficiency is shown.
