The paper studies problems of student knowledge control organization and knowledge assessment considering methodical and technical aspects. The main steps of knowledge control (KC) evolution are shown. KC methods classifications are given that can be useful as for computer-based KC systems developers as for tutors to choose startegy of KC organization and marks definition in computer-based teaching
