Case Study of an Assortment of Bras within a Store in Riga
2008
Ivars Krieviņš, Natalja Dakša

An assortment of 24608 bras sold at a Riga store during 2 years (from August 2005 until July 2007) is described with a view to find out differences in buyers` and consumers` preferences. Every stock keeping unit has been recorded into database by a set of characteristics including suppliers’ brand, retail price, size, several style attributes etc. On the whole moderate varying retail prices (average =8 LVL, variation v=31%) do not correlate with highly varying selling rates (v=170%). There are found differences between sale amount and selling rates within brand, colour and style preferences. The most preferred prototypes of bra style are made from nylon and elastane mixture fibres (67%) fabricated into laces (48%), mostly in white and black, being made-up with wired and padded (70%) bipartite cups (62%) and with narrow straps (86%). There have been studied deviations between under-bust size labelling data and that of strained bra measurements. Approximately half of the bras does not fit into their size measurement tolerance limits.
