Effectiveness and Efficiency of Economic Incentives for Electricity Generation from Renewable Energy Sources in Latvia
Applied Economics: Systematic Research 2011
Arta Deniņa, Jānis Zvanītājs

The paper analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of promotion of electricity generation from renewable energy sources (RES) in Latvia by looking at the economic incentives available for entrepreneurs. The main support measure for increased use of RES is the obligatory purchase mechanism (OPM) and the feed-in tariffs for electricity that is generated from RES (RES-E). The methodology for assessing the efficiency of the economic incentives for RES-E producers is set out. The paper concludes that the efficiency of economic incentives for RES-E generation in Latvia is low and need to be improved.
