The research is based both on reviews taken from scientific literature and on a spatial data analysis, using geographical information systems and field research. Although this approach of the landscape ecological planning and its solutions are used comparatively rarely, in modern society, however, they must be used when planning various levels of authorities and branches of agriculture, forestry, transport etc. This article highlights essential problems of landscape ecological planning in Latvia, first, planning approach and practice, second, spatial data, third, normative laws and regulations.
