Reducing Negative Effect of Frequency Modulation on Switching Power Converter Efficiency
2011
Deniss Stepins

In the paper, the effect of frequency modulation (FM) on efficiency of classical dc/dc switching power converters (SPC) is examined. The results obtained show that FM can decrease the efficiency of SPC. A procedure and expressions to calculate the efficiency and total power losses in the basic SPC topologies (buck, boost, buck-boost) are presented. Recommendations to improve the efficiency are also proposed.
