Infrastructures such as energy grids, transportation networks, telecommunications systems and water supply networks are critical to the welfare, economy and security of every European country. Protecting these critical infrastructures is one of the main challenges for governments and international organizations. In order to develop robust infrastructure protection strategies, it is important to identify and understand the global behavior and intrinsic weaknesses of these systems and their components, especially in the face of adverse events
