The results of pulsed laser irradiation of ZnO crystals are presented. The irradiation of ZnO nanoparticles embeded in polymer polyvinyl alcohol matrix by pulsed Nd:YAG laser leads to decrease of particles size. The size decrease was established by atomic force microscope. Blue shift of free exciton line was observed in photoluminescence spectra . This shift is explained by exciton quantum confinement effect in the ZnO nanoparticles.
