The foundation of Riga State Technical School in 1919 resulted in making a strong basis for development of secondary technical education in Latvia as well as facilitated prosperity of industrial and economical life. Liepaja State Technical School was founded in 1920, followed by Riga City Evening School in 1926.Rezekne State Technical School and Daugavpils State Railway Technical School were founded in 1929. Riga State Technical School was the largest secondary technical educational establishment in Latvia. There were six departments: Building, Mechanics, Electrotechnical, Chemistry, Cultural technical and Railway maintenance departments. The history of the state technical school is divided into two parts:1920-ties(1919-1930) under the management of the building engineer Ansis Grinbergs and 1930-ties (1931-1940) when the director was the engineer mechanic Adolph Vickopfs. Its graduates became outstanding specialists in industry, education and science not only in Latvia, but also abroad after World War II.
