Hemp (Cannabis Sativa L.) is fast growing, multi-purpose and annual herbaceous plant, almost all parts of this plant are used for different products processing. Up to now the most commonly produced and used parts are fibers and seeds, but shives in most cases are considered as by-product and burned or used as animal bedding, mulch, compost, chemical absorbent. However, in recent years, investigations of hemp shives showed that the usage could be much wider and that them could be used in new, more high-quality products with higher added value. Nowadays hemp shives are used in wide range of applications such as paper, packaging, plastics and polymers, building materials (insulation, fiber board, hemp concrete) and construction products etc., which create more viable market with new and high-quality products from hemp shives.
