Professional standard means that one particular area of employment has uniform and compulsory requirements, thus professional standard makes educational standardization and unification legitimate. In the era of globalization, any Customs officer needs greater understanding of trade, political and economic environment in which Customs operates. To meet today’s high requirements for people who promote or hinder international trade, it is necessary to develop and apply uniform requirements for the representatives of these professions all over the world, including the European Union. After examining the training and development system for Customs officers, it is envisaged to create common professional standard for Customs officers as a basis for consistent training and development system, but to be managed by each member state. Professional standard for Customs officers would be the most important unifying element in the establishment of the training system, on the basis of which a coordinated and harmonized training and development system will be built. If professional development model for Customs officers and entrepreneurs is efficient in the member states, Customs capacity will increase much faster and it will result in more successful work of the entire Customs union.
