Institutions and Economic Performance

The aim of the current paper is to survey significant literature on the role of institutions in economic performance. A recent body of literature has argued that the institutions are the fundamental cause of differences in economic development. Section II outlines the debate on the role of state in economics. Section III describes the theoretical framework of institutions. Section IV illustrates the role of institutions in economic performance by quantitative proof. Section V concludes the article.
