In this research radiolocation method application possibilities on clay rich sediment layers research were analyzed and evaluated. Main attention was paid on signals that are associated with boundaries of clay rich sediment layers with different properties. Research was realized using Radar systems ground penetrating radar Zond-12e with three different shielded antenna systems – 500 MHz, 750 MHz and 900 MHz. In radiolocation profiling acquired signals, which are related with sediment layers electromagnetic properties, were related with sediment layers physical properties. In field work acquired soil sample properties were determined with laboratorial tests (moisture content and granulometric distribution analysis). High quality data where obtained – interpretation of all acquired radarogramms were done and connection of informative signals to contrasting soil moisture and granulometric composition boundaries were established. In progress of research high quality informative signals were acquired with 900 MHz antenna. Reasons why signal, which were acquired with lower frequency antennas, quality was lower should be studied in future. It is difficult to acquire unequivocal interpretable data from radiolocation profiles that are made on clay rich sediment layers with horizontal bedding, without reference of used antenna system central frequency. This is one of the limiting factors to method application in future. Research allows us to conclude, that clay rich sediment layers electromagnetic properties are mainly dependent of moisture content and particle granulometric distribution. Nonetheless in future sediment layers mineral and chemical composition should be studied, because at least in some cases it could be the main factor that determines sediment layers electromagnetic properties.
