From Green Projects to Green Society: 4th International Conference ”Environmental Science and Education in Latvia and Europe”: Conference Proceedings 2010
Dagnija Blumberga, Marika Rošā

Environmental science is one of the branches of science in Latvia and has a specific role in sustainable development because the environmental research is presented in two ways: as a dependent branch of science and as an integrated in any other science branch. The problems with sustainable development of environmental science in Latvia start with management of the science in Latvia. 134 project proposals were submitted for Europe Social Fund activity 1.1.1.2 ''Involvement of Human Resources to the Science'', 64 of which were submitted in the field of environmental science. This allows thinking of popularity growth of the environmental science in Latvia. Still, this fact was not considered in the Latvian Council of Science when making decision on the State budget financing for the scientific grants. As the results, only one grant was approved and received financing of 16 000 Lats in the field of environmental science.
