Linear instability of shallow mixing layers is analyzed in the present paper. It is assumed that the friction coefficient is not constant but varies considerably with respect to the transverse coordinate. Linear stability problem is solved numerically by means of the pseudospectral collocation method. Numerical results indicate that the flow with constant friction coefficient is more stable than the flow with non-constant friction coefficient.
