Comparison of SOA and Raman-SOA Optical Signal Amplification Solutions in WDM Transmission Systems

Nowadays optical fibers have experienced rapid growth and become more used in telecommunications. One of the topical issues is the extention of transmission distance of existing transmission systems by implementing a hybrid solution for optical signal amplification. In this work, with the help of numerical simulations, a 16 channel DWDM transmission systems with SOA and Raman-SOA optical signal amplification solutions were realized. The quality of the received optical signal was evaluated and it was concluded, that the implementation of hybrid solutions for optical signal amplification can ensure higher signal-to-noise ration.
