Cement of Sandstones of the Devonian Gauja and Sietiņi Formations in the Gauja River Valley and Its Vicinity from Valmiera to Cesis

Reseach is focused on the cement composition and distribution in sandstones of the Devonian Gauja and Sietiņi formations. There are 4 outcrops documented, 20 grain-size analyses done, 19 thin-sections studied, and XRD analysis performed for clay material iron compound cement dominates in the Gauja Formation sandstones, feldspar syntaxial overgrowths are the most widespread in the Sietiņi Formation, the same overgrowths prevail, but iron compounds are present as well in the transitional zone between formations. Clay cement mainly consists of kaolinite, illite and chlorite.
