The Riga Technical University (RTU) very often is called an institution of higher education with an accent in sport. At the Olympic Games 1912 in Stockholm 6 students of the Polytechnic Institute in Riga took part. In the time from 1912 to 2012 26 Olympic Summer Games and 21 Olympic Winter Games took place. The students and alumni of engineering sciences did not take part in all these games but they were present at 16 Olympic Summer Games and 9 Olympic Winter Games. In these 100 years 43 students and alumni of engineering sciences have participated in Olympic Games and 8 of them have got together 10 Olympic Medals. Of the 43 students who participated, 25 have finished their studies. 20 of them finished the Polytechnic Institute in Riga, 5 of them have finished the engineering faculties of the Latvian University. 15 female and male students have studied at the RTU and 3 are still studying.
