Latvian Journal of Physics and Technical Sciences 1998

The present article is devoted to the direct frequency converters (FCs) and their control strategies. One kind of the direct FCs is a matrix converter (MC). Effective investigation and use of the MCs became possible because of intensive development of power semiconductor devices. Pulse-width modulation in MCs based on new AC switches is discussed and different kinds of such switches are compared. Results of MC simulation are presented. Tendencies in MC development are briefly analyzed.
