The history of pedagogy is an important part of Latvian cultural history and its research helps to use the past experience in order to understand and evaluate the current problems of the education and it helps to generate new ideas in the field of pedagogy. Studies of the history of pedagogy has rich traditions in Latvia and has gained essential results having been used in writing this article, to trace and explain the development of education in Latvia in the context of different centuries.
