Different possible district heating (DH) system scenarios for the new building estate has been compared in this study. Different temperature regimes, building energy performances and fuel types are evaluated in order to determine the most feasible solution. The choice of lower temperature regime allows reducing heat losses in the heat network and primary energy consumption, but increases power consumption to overcome the pressure loss. The results show that the decrease in the total heat consumption in case of energy efficient buildings significantly increases specific costs of DH system. The level of electricity prices and fuel costs may significantly affect the choice of DH systems development model in different parts of the world.
