The doctoral thesis is focused on application of modeling and simulation approach to multi echelon supply chain management. In spite of a variety of research, methods and software, the problem related to an effective application of above mentioned tools to company’s supply chain management is still actual. The object of the research is multi echelon supply chain management under stochastic demand. The subject of the research is multi echelon supply chain inventory control task. The goal of the doctoral thesis is developing the approach for modelling based multi echelon supply chain tactical management which ensures mathematically based multi echelon supply chain decision making under stochastic demand and lead time, which both are main sources of supply chain uncertainty. The developed approach incorporates application of both optimization and simulation for solving multi echelon supply chain management tasks. The first and second parts of the doctoral thesis are aimed at exploring theoretical fundamentals of multi echelon supply chain management, including supply chain management performance indicators, analysis of supply chain modeling approaches. The particular focus are on the analysis of logistics and supply chain information system functionality. The third and fourth parts of the doctoral thesis presents the developed modeling based multi echelon supply chain tactical management approach with its practical application to multi echelon supply chain inventory control task including approbation case studies at Latvian companies. The practical value of the formulated approach including developed methods and models is promotion of mathematically based decision making of supply chain planning and management which applications to companies’ strategic and tactical management allow decreasing logistics costs and improving supply chain business processes.
