The Pedagogical Possibilities of the Formation of a Personal Worldview in Vocational Education in Latvia

Vocational education is not only training professionals, but also forming citizens, therefore it is necessary to create conditions for personalised experience of values which make possible creation of world view. World view based on values allows people to make responsible economic and political choices that affect both the individual and the society. The aim of the study is to reveal the opportunities of world view formation in the vocational education of Latvia. In order to perform this, analysis of literature and documents as well as experts’ interviews and analysis of those was performed. For the world view formation it is important to build an educational paradigm, which influences the teaching-learning activities in vocational education of Latvia. Understanding this paradigm helps to understand the way in which vocational school students can create value- based view of themselves, nature and society and thus achieve personality development. The educational practices which can promote qualitative changes inpersonality then are of great importance. The consequent implementation of the humanitarian paradigm in the vocational education and realization of the critical constructivism and adventure education ideas can contribute to that purpose. The personality of the teacher, teacher and student collaboration and learning environment are the main tools to make the formation of student s’ world view possible during vocational education. World view formation is influenced by both physical and social environment. It is necessary to create possibility for students to link with the local community, experience cultural heritage. Further development of teacher personality may encourage them to transform learning environment and explore with the students the adventure of the learning, and the reflection of learning experiences
