Genealogists of the family Kerkovius: Theodor F. Kerkovius (1838–1915) and his grandson Gunter Kerkovius (1909–1987) have accounted for more than 2000 family members. In their research, they went as far back as the 14th century. History has scattered them all across the globe, from Portugal to Far East, from Saint Petersburg to South Africa, Australia, and North America. Since the 16th century, more than 300 family members have at one point or another lived in Latvia. Up until World War II, more than one hundred representatives of several generations have enriched the intellectual and industrial heritage of Riga. The article describes the results of detailed research about several family members who were linked to the Riga Polytechnical School and Riga Politechical Institute since its foundation until the World War I. Among them, there were public figures, entrepreneurs, patrons, and professors.
