Aim of the dissertation is to improve individual protective system of Latvian National Armed Forces (NAF) soldiers. In the thesis situation of material technical resources (MTR) support was studied regarding to the most common threats to a soldier's life. Methodological part of the thesis summarizes methods used in research: expert survey, index ranking of soldier's individual protection system (SIPS), document analysis, benchmarking of MTR properties, method of complex defect estimation, evaluation with the field experiment and interview method, a newly developed MTR concordance test, EUROFIT test and stepergometry HARVARD STEP test, MTR load impact on level of energy consumption, thermal resistance water vapor resistance, water vapor permeability index, breathability, wind resistance, weight and volume, the calculated thermal duration of clothing layers, determination of thermal insulation of SIPS and sleeping bags assembly, heat stress prediction method, burning behavior determination, fire durability mannequin test, protection against ultraviolet radiation, SIPS camouflage properties, the methods for protection against mechanical hazards and weapons of mass destruction were described as well. Experimental and analytical part of the thesis summarizes main results and its analysis. Conclusions and recommendations are used for improvement and long-term stabilization of NBS supply logistic and material technical resources. Doctoral thesis is written in Latvian language and it consist of 188 pages with 92 figures and 47 tables, 34 addendums. Bibliography consist from 162 ttiles.
