In the ancient world use of natural resources to promote health contributed to the development of public institutions in ancient Greece – baths and gardens for treatment, as well as centers of social life – Roman Baths, which creatively inspired many subsequent generations of architects. During the Renaissance epoch treatment on waters was revived, and the first resorts were created. In Russia concept about the resort was born at the beginning of the XVIII century in the reign of Peter I. In the XIX century German resorts Baden-Baden and Aachen become meeting centers of high society. Prestigious buildings with elements of classical order were built, creating associations with the ancient architecture. At the beginning of the XIX century in Courland Government the first urban community gardens and health centers in the parks were appeared. In port cities resort-park zone linked with the general plan of the city. In 1860 Grand Duke Nikolai Aleksandrovich came to Libava and revealed "Nicholas bathing establishment" on a coast of the Baltic Sea. Libava became a meeting place for the aristocracy. In the making of mass culture, resort environment developed in line with the culture of the educated society: in resorts began to build specialized houses and in the architecture of the spa buildings the idea of imitation of the Empire style was developed. Architect Paul Max Bertschy created environment in the tradition of German culture: on the seashore wellness and luxury summer cottages were built and landscape gardens were cultivated. Promenade circle linked resort area with the city center. In 1902 on the seashore the modern medical complex, reminiscent of ancient Greek temple, was built. The northern part of Seaside Park was arranged. The main task of the study – to determine characteristics of Libava resort’s spatial-planning environment formation.
