Chemistry Professor Augusts Ķešāns

The professor Augusts Ķešāns was born in the region of Mālpils (municipality of More). The life and work of the professor (1881–1954) for nearly 35 years was connected with the University of Latvia (1929–1954) and in the later part of his life – also with the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Latvian SSR (1946–1954). Furthermore, for almost 25 years, he was the head of the inorganic chemistry department (1930–1954) and delivered the course in inorganic chemistry. A. Ķešāns was well known as the professor of inorganic and analytical chemistry and as an excellent lecturer, as the founder of the research of borate chemistry in Latvia and the pioneer in chemistry terminology. He greatly contributed to the science community. He educated and guided several generations of chemists. Many Latvian chemists have learned from his chemistry text books.
