TiO2/ferrite and TiO2/Ag/ferrite aggregated sphere heterostructures with visible light photocatalytic activity were obtained via simple co-precipitation and photodeposition synthesis methods. The spinel ferrite nanoparticles in size less than 5 nm were uniformly coated after co-precipitation on the surface of the Ag modified or non-modified commercial TiO2 anatase nanoparticles with size ~25nm. Compared with commercial anatase and synthesized spinel ferrites alone, all heterostructure photocatalysts exhibit an enhanced photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation in the degradation of methyl orange. Moreover, it was found that the TiO2/Ag/ferrite three-component heterostructures exhibited significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity compared with two component ones.
