Methods of weakly nonlinear theory are used in the present paper to derive an amplitude evolution equation for the development of instability in a shallow mixing layer. It is assumed that the flow is governed by shallow water equations. Friction term is modeled by means of the Chezy formula where the friction coefficient depends on the transverse coordinate.
