Professor Jūlijs Eiduks – His Life, Work and Personality

The name of Professor Jūlijs Eiduks is connected with an essential period in the history of silicate science in Latvia. He is a founder of the “silicate school” of Latvia. J. Eiduks has worked in the University of Latvia, Riga Politechnical Institute and in the Institute of Chemistry of the Latvian Academy of Sciences. The number of J. Eiduks’ students surpasses a thousand. Under his supervision 48 candidates defended their dissertations, which presently are equivalent to doctoral dissertations (theses). Professor Eiduks’ talent has found application in every branch of natural raw materials and silicate technology (glass, ceramics, the binding agents of mortars) of Latvia.
