Quality assurance is one of the most critical factors for long-term survival of businesses and other organizations and can be described as part of quality management focused on fulfilling quality requirements, customer needs, and expectations. The other activities of quality management related to quality assurance are quality planning, quality control, and quality improvement. This entry focuses on the terms related to quality assurance, provides a brief historical overview of the quality assurance concept, reviews different approaches to quality assurance, and describes the relationship between quality assurance and government regulation.
