The Consumption of Primary Resources in Latvia: Historical Changes and Forecasts

The events of 1991 in Latvia have led to rapid economic changes, as well as to the significant change in the structure of energy consumption in Latvia. This publication analyses the historical changes in energy consumption between 1993 and 2013. Based on the analysis of statistical data, macroeconomic forecasts and information on development of prospective projects, the forecast of consumption of energy resources in Latvia (by kinds of energy and sectors of economy) is provided in this paper. As the future work, we plan to produce and analyse the scenarios for development of Latvian energy sector. By means of economic analysis, it is planned to determine the optimal scenario.
