In the 1960s and 1970s last century for bridge span structures were used with strand prestressed concrete beams, where used smooth or corrugated strands 5 millimetres in diameter as reinforcement. They have been designed for that time characteristic loads N -30 and NK-80 (in accordance with the Construction Code SN-200 -62 from 1962). The ability to pass the nowadays loads depends on the amount of damages in the beam. This type of beams on Latvian roads are still operated in 115 bridges. Therefore, in order to assess the actual load carrying capacity of this type beams, the remaining lifetime and provide recommendations for their further use, was carried out the crush test of the beams of dismantling road bridge over the Maza Jugla River on road P2 Juglas papīrfabrika - Upesciems 1,90 km.
