6-Perfluoroalkyl pyrimidine derivatives of well known tyrosine kinase inhibitor imatinib have been synthesised from 1-(pyridin-3-yl)-3-perfluoroalkylbutane-1,3-diones by condensation with a 3-iodophenylguanidine and then by a Cu(I)-catalysed reaction with a 4-substituted benzamide.
