Chapter provides information on the development of Department of Silicate Technology starting from 1866. Survey of training work organization and teaching staff growth of Department of Silicate Technology starting from the study year 1987 / 1988 is presented. The summary of research topics is performed for the period from 1958 to 2000. More detailed analysis on the Institute of Silicate Materials science is the period from 2000 to 2013, giving details of realized research cooperation with Latvian enterprises, scientific infrastructure development and attract research funding.
