Abstract The usage of ytterbium doped fibers is one of the most attractive solutions to increase an output power of optical amplifiers as it ensures low non-linearity, without affecting the amplification efficiency. Based on experimental results the fiber effective area Aeff has been calculated for different length of ytterbium doped fibers.
