In this paper performance of a 40 Gbps WDM transmission system is being evaluated. Total 16 channels with DBPSK modulation are transmitted over 100 km long fiber. In the middle of the transmission line a single Raman amplifier with backward pumping is placed. Raman amplifiers tend to have high power consumption. To amplify the signal using Raman stimulated scattering usually hundreds of milliwatts are needed. Because using high power lasers is expensive, the purpose of this paper is to make system under study to work with maximum BER 1e-12 and 1e-16 with minimum laser power.
