The first stage of ADSL system activity (training) starts with an information exchange between transmitter and receiver while they identify each other and the main collaboration parameters are set. Initial procedure includes the following actions: an activation of equipment, synchronization, assessment of noise capacity at each DMT sub-band, transferring of control signals in order to estimate attenuation of the line for each sub-band and choosing the number of transferred bits.
