Abstract The present article deals with one of the alternative forms of energy – sea wave energy potential in the Latvian Exclusice Economic Zone (EEZ). Results have been achieved using a new method – VEVPP. Calculations have been performed using the data on wave parameters over the past five years (2010–2014). We have also considered wave energy potential in the Gulf of Riga. The conclusions have been drawn on the recommended methodology for the sea wave potential and power calculations for wave-power plant pre-design stage.
