Advantages and Drawbacks of Using Group Work in Translator Training

Nowadays the role of the educator has considerably changed as the study process has become more student-centered. Thus students’ cooperation and communication, sharing knowledge and opinions in the group work process have become highly valuable. The aim of the research was to identify students’ opinions about the advantages and drawbacks of group work in the translation process, using this information to improve the quality of translator training. Content analysis was chosen as a research method. The main conclusions of the research are as follows: 1. the way of translation – individually or in a group - depends on the translator’s expectations, experience, language competence and their individuality; 2. to ensure successful team work, the educator should ensure a number of preconditions; 3. group work has both positive and negative aspects; therefore, the educator and students should improve their skills and competence to use group work in the translation process in the most professional way.
