The work for defense of doctoral thesis is devoted to development of methods for determination of lightning tolerance level for the bearing metal constructions of high voltage transmission lines which allows to consider individual geometry parameters of an object and magnetic properties of structural materials. At estimation of relevance of subject-matter of the work for defense of doctor’s thesis, the history of development of surge protection methods for the transmission line has been investigated in details, and results of a research are reflected in theoretical substantiation of work. The review of the existing methods for definition of lightning tolerance of power transmission lines offered by the leading institutions in this sphere of power industry is provided in work. Also the review and comparison of the mathematical models describing a form of an impulse of lightning current is given in work. In accordance with the rated algorithm offered in the work for definition of lightning tolerance level of the bearing metal structures of the transmission line, the solution of the task starts with definition of individual geometric dimensions and concomitant electric magnitudes of the studied construction, and also with definition of lightning discharge parameters. The developed algorithm provides three options of scenarios, namely: - in case of direct hit of lightning in metallic tower of transmission line, the probability of insulating structure flashover with consequent utages of power line is very small; - performed calculations indicate the need of additional research for the purpose of definition of lightning current distribution trajectory in construction of metal tower and determination of its critical sections from the point of view of insulating flashover; - the analysis of the situation by the example of separately taken power line’s tower is insufficient and it is necessary that the research of reaction of transmission line to storm influence, has be amplified with definition of reaction of linear insulation of the adjacent towers of power lines. Developed methodology ultimately enables technological design stage in the course without the problems related to additional data, as well as fix lightning tolerance level of new designed power lines, but, if necessary, the measures already envisaged for power lines service for prediction of the dangerous situations, could be planned. The doctoral thesis is written in Latvian, it contains introduction, 3 theoretical and 2 practical sections, the main conclusions of the carried out work and the bibliography of sources of the used literature. The total volume of work makes 127 pages, includes 59 drawings and 19 tables. In the list of literature references to 154 sources of information are given.
