Abstract So far there have been several studies on the round goby population and its influence on the ecosystem; however, there are no studies on its commercial role in different countries. The aim of the research is to find out the commercial role of the round goby in different countries. According to the information provided by researchers and experts as well as the information obtained in the field trips and internet resources, the author found out the types of use and processing of the round goby in different countries, and analyzed its markets. As a result of the analysis the author discovered that in separate countries the round goby has commercial role, and it is processed in several ways, nevertheless, there are also countries, where it has no commercial role. At the moment it is impossible to judge about the market potential of the round goby. The countries should solve ecological and economic issues related to the round goby fully in the framework of the EU, implementing a joined strategy. The results of the study can help the institutions involved in the fisheries policy-making working and improving the common policy of the sector more successfully.
