The role of entrepreneurship is essential in an innovation process. An innovation strategy should be closely linked to the company's vision and overall business strategy, and based on comprehensive and relevant information both from inside the company and from the market and the environment. The paper analyzes the interaction between exploitative and explorative innovation, closed and open innovation and different kinds of innovation strategies. There is an attempt to find the best innovation strategy to improve the innovation performance in the business companies of Latvia
