Eddy current method is one of the widely used methods for quality testing of electrically conducting materials. Eddy currents are induced in the medium if a coil carrying alternating current is located in the vicinity of the tested material. The change in impedance of the coil due to eddy currents can be used to detect anomalies (or flaws) in the conducting medium. Quasi-analytical method for the solution of direct eddy current testing problems for multilayer media with cylindrical flaws is used to calculate the change in impedance of a cylindrical air core coil whose axis coincides with the axis of the cylindrical flaw. Such models can be used to assess the effect of corrosion or test the quality of spot welding.
